Mike Foster News Bishop Douglas Deshotel of the Diocese of Lafayette presented a check for $155,000 on Monday to Bishop Glen Provost of the Diocese of Lake Charles. The funds were generated during a “second collection” last month at Catholic church parishes throughout the Diocese, as well as through online giving through the Diocesan website. The donation will benefit Catholic Charities of Southwest Louisiana in providing food, water, shelter and other assistance to the poor of that area who were greatly impacted by Hurricane Laura, as well as aid in rebuilding efforts for Catholic churches, schools, community centers and food pantries throughout the Diocese of Lake Charles. Deshotel said, “The people of the Diocese of Lake Charles have suffered terrible devastation. Homes, businesses, schools and churches have been destroyed. People of the Diocese of Lafayette are reaching out to help with food, housing and cleanup. Catholic Charities of Acadiana has been here, on the ground in Lake Charles, since just after the storm. Today, I am happy to present a check for $155,000 from the people of the Diocese of Lafayette to help in their recovery. This comes from a Diocesan-wide collection taken up a few weeks ago.
